We divided the Design circle into 2 parts: challenge/investigate/get ideas and then create/share/reflect. We went through the design circle several times.
Challenge
Started with the winter theme
Investigate
Classical discussed about winter. What’s nice about winter? How’s the weather in the winter? Is the snow beautiful? Why and what questions.
Get ideas
I printed out colored cards about winter for inspiration. Snow, winter clothes, sleigh, ice skates etc...
Create
The students made a winter drawing with the help of the inspiration cards.
Share
The children have shared their drawing work/story.
Reflect:
What is the most interesting/fun winter part? Answer: Snowman
Then I read them a fantasy story about a snowman and worked with the design circle again.
Investigate:
We investigated the storyline. What happend in the story? Why was the snowman sad? We discovered that the snowman needs to find friends
Get ideas:
We discussed possible friends for the snowman.
Challenge:
how can we make sure the snowman doesn’t feel sad anymore?
Create:
The students started experimenting with scratch Jr with different programming blocks: start, stop, walk, turn, jump, create and edit characters using the draw and the camera tool.
Share:
They have shared their work with each other and learned ways to create their own story
Reflection:
What’s fun about this animation? What did we learn?
